John Walker Lindh, Benedict Arnold and the Wise Use of Traitors

In 2001 John Walker Lindh was captured by American forces in Afghanistan. Despite the fact that this young American so successfully convinced the Taliban of his loyalty thathe met Osama bin Laden, the Bush regime could find no other use for him but as a subject for torture and intimidation. As has been well documented, Lindh was abused, denied access to an attorney, and threatened to the point where he pled guilty and was sentenced to twenty years in prison, where he remains to this day.

After eight years, thousands of deaths, and the expenditure of untold billions, no other American, and certainly no members of the CIA nor our armed forces, has ever come as close to Bin Laden as Lindh did, all on his own and without a dime of government support.
