Although it was on the recommended list July 6-7 and elicited many helpful responses, one of the weaknesses in my diary "RFK jr. Calls for a Masterstroke on Energy by Obama" is that transportation, especially private automobiles, accounts for up to 70% of US petroleum consumption. Even if wind, solar and geothermal, as envisioned by RFK jr, can provide 100% of electricity needs, that will not be enough.
And – even if we had plentiful and cheap electricity, an electric car can’t go very far without a recharge, even with the best available batteries.
However, a discovery was made seven months ago at Stanford University that may signal that all-electric cars will soon be possible.
Only one problem: The discovery was almost totally ignored in the United States and the only funding that the inventor of the new battery has received is from Saudi Arabia.
More below, and a call for Obama to take a stand.
